<p>MetrolinaChristian sophomore Marcus Abraham is always thinking about his next throw.He began training and learning to throw the discus from his mother,Cordella, and the shotput from his father, bennie.Now, abraham has become a stateChampionshipCaliber performer.His parentsCompeted in discus and shotput at southCarolina state.Marcus, now 15, started learning when he was 8 years old.I started throwing very early in my life and learned a lot fromCompeting on a national level, marcus said.But through all of that training and experience, the main thing i ve learned is to stay humble in everything i do.Sometimes people who have success early on getCocky.But i don t have time for bragging or boasting.I m just focused on getting better every time out.If abrahamContinues to improve, itCould be a scary proposition for hisCompetition.He has won the ncisaa 3a stateChampionship in the discus with a throw of 138 feet, 10 inches, as a freshman.He also finished sixth at the same state meet in the shotput with a toss of 43 feet, 6 inches.This season abraham has made drastic improvements.He posted aCareer best 157 feet, 2 inches, in the discus to win the marvin ridge invitational, while also recently throwing an outdoor personal-Record 49 feet, 6 3/4 inches in the shotput at the taco bellClassic on april 13.Abraham actually set aCareer-Best in the shotput indoors this winter.He threw 52 feet, 4 inches, atClemson university s youth and masters invitational.He placed fifth in the nation as a sophomore.We have always set goals for marcus going into every meet orCompetition, saidCordella abraham, who is still one of his mainCoaches.I think those goals allow him to focus on performing his best all of the time, no matter what meet he is at or who he isCompeting against.He always has his own goals in mind.His high schoolCoach, metrolinaChristian s brett honeycutt, agrees.Success is all relative for marcus, honeycutt said.He won the stateChampionship last year in the discus, and he was already thinking about his next goal.Abraham s goals have been high since he became cheap womens jerseys an all-American thrower on the amateur athletic unionCircuit for hisCharlotte flight team(Coached by bennie andCordella abraham).He earned the no.1 spot in the nation for his age group in the discus and shotput forConsecutive years at age 9 and 10.My goal is always to be the best thrower in the nation, abraham said.That doesn t mean i have been or always will be the best.But that is what i m shooting for.So i m never really satisfied.Marcus talents don t stop at field events.The 5-Foot-11, 230-Pounder also is an accomplished middle linebacker on the team.This past season, abraham registered a team-Best 101 tackles to finish fifth in all of unionCounty.Abraham s efforts in both track and football are already getting himCollege attention in both sports.Several schools, including n.C.State, are interested in marcus for his abilities in field events. In addition, Abraham was part of an elite group of Football players across the nation invited to the NFL Prep 100 SeriesCamp at the Baltimore Ravens training facility. Ideally, Marcus would like to be able to do both track and Football inCollege, Honeycutt said. Right now, I m just trying to play both sports at a high level, so ICan have as many opportunities at the next level and beyond as possible, Abraham said.Competing at a high level has him focused on rewriting the state records books in the discus and shotput. To do that, he works tirelessly in the weight room, where heCan bench press over 300 pounds and squat 450 pounds.There is always someone out there who is better than you or has more talent than you, abraham said.But i d like to think that there aren t many people that will out work me.One thing that sets abraham apart from other discus athletes is his double-Spin move, which is not often seen in high school, according to honeycutt.Abraham, who has done the move for four years, says the move allows him to generate more power and throw farther. The MetrolinaChristian sophomore is a good student and is well-Liked by his teachers, peers and administrators, according to honeycutt. He is also active at hisChurch, VictoryChristianCenter, where he is a youth usher. I ve improved a lot over the years, but I still feel like ICan get even better, Abraham said.Every time i reach a goal, i try to set another one even higher.My ultimate goal is to always be getting better, always striving for more.</p>
